Would someone please try and explain what if anything I'm doing wrong? Can someone please tell me how one does put text below an image? I have tried putting text in a box and it still does not work. Ayway, I've now downloaded a version frm SourceForge.

Then, on looking for a download, I find that the web site is evasive about having options for current versions of Windows (I have been on W7 64 bit since Jan 2010, best OS I have ever used) and installation problems under W7 are a topic of discussion (which concerns me considerably). and show some things different in detail, I thought I'd better uninstall my 2.6. So as all the online help seems to be about versions 2.8. I looked around the Web, where Youtube shows it working. (with: a) Node editing, b) the Bezier Envelope Extension, or c) with the regular Envelope Deformation LPE on individual letters) To a certain degree possible in Gimp with a script but the result is not very good and can take ages. So I tried writing inside the image area - same result. Curving text in GIMP requires the use of two tools: the text tool to add text, and the paths tool to create a shape for it to follow. When you double click you will get Tool Options window or dialogue box. There should be a Tool Options tab in one of the floating toolboxes (mine is on the bottom-left side of the screen by default) that has additional options. So I tried making a new slightly larger layer for the text, and putting a text box below the photo in that, in case trying to write outside the cropped area was the problem. Double click on the text tool to get text align option in GIMP. I have just spent about 3 hours trying to put some text below it (this is the first time I have tried to do this), I did: text tool, draw text box, type in text.
Today I have a precious family photo that I have cropped to a tidy image. I have been using 2.6.8 (I think) occasionally for a while to do fairly basic cleanups and crops on photos.
